Implications of mpMRI Guided Targeted Biopsy for Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer: Experience in a Military Hospital of Bangladesh
Abstract
Background: Targeted prostate biopsy (TGBx) has become
widely adopted technique, driven by advances in
multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI).
Unlike systematic biopsy (SBx), which samples the prostate
in a uniform, non-specific manner, TGBx directs biopsy
cores to suspicious lesions identified on mpMRI, potentially
enhancing detection of clinically significant disease. Several
studies have reported superior diagnostic yield with TGBx
compared to SBx. Against this backdrop this study has been
designed to evaluate and compare the prostate cancer detection
rates of SBx and TGBx in biopsy-naive men in Bangladesh.
