Oblique Triangular Neurovascular Island Flap for Fingertip Reconstruction in a Resource Limited Setting
Abstract
Background: Fingers are highly specialized part of hand
for prehension, allows certain sensations and important
aesthetic feature. Fingertip injury causes significant
functional and aesthetic defects with great impact on patient’s
quality of life. This study was conducted to evaluate the
outcome of oblique triangular neurovascular island flap
for coverage of fingertip defect distal to distal interphalangeal
(DIP) joint.
Materials and methods: A quasi experimental study was
conducted in the department of Plastic Surgery of Dhaka
Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and National Institute
of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS). Total 22 patients with
25 fingertip defects distal to DIP joint was included in the
study from 1st September, 2020 to 31st August 2021.
